Frequently Asked Questions:
What does NEST stand for?
North East Substance Team. NEST is the Substance Misuse Service for Under 18's in North East Lincolnshire.
What does NEST do?
NEST offers support, advice, counselling, healthcare and, where appropriate, treatment to young people who want help in relation to their own or others substance use.
How do I contact NEST?
You can contact NEST on (01472) 326693 Monday - Thursday from 9.00am - 5.00pm and Friday 9.00am - 4.30pm. An answering machine is operational outside of office hours (i.e. weekends and Bank Holidays). Alternatively, you can e-mail NEST on: nest@nelincs.gov.uk
Who can refer?
Any young person can self refer. Family members or professionals working with the young person or their family can directly refer to the service.
Is consent required?
Yes. A referral for a person under the age of 13 will require parent/carer consent as a minimum and preferably the young persons consent as well. A referral for a person aged 13 and above will require their consent.
What about confidentiality? - Who will you tell?
The service provided by NEST is confidential and free. Everyone who contacts NEST is listened to and treated with respect - we will not tell anyone about you unless you want us to and give your permission for us to do so. However, if we become aware of a young person or any other individual who is "at risk" of significant harm then we may have to breach confidentiality.
When and where can I see someone?
We aim to respond within 5 working days. We offer home visits and we can arrange to meet with a young person away from their home environment i.e. at their school premises or in the NEST offices.
Is there an age limit?
Yes. The young person must be under the age of 18.
What can I expect from a NEST worker?
NEST advisers will work with you. They will not try to force you to cut down or stop - but will encourage you to look at your options. NEST workers can also explore your social and educational needs.
